The group is currently organised by Richard Hovey.
As a Church group we welcome people to walk with us with any or no religious faith or church affiliation. The group first walked on 8th July 2011. It was set up by Colin Craddock as a way for the church to serve the local community. He led most of the walks himself. Richard Hovey took over the organisation in October 2023, after Colin retired from the role, at which point we started to share the leading of walks.
Our walks are usually monthly on the 2nd Friday of the month, for about 8 miles, mainly on local footpaths. The walks are a great way to explore the local countryside, to enjoy the changing seasons, the views from hilltops, and to chat to people (if you want to!). We bring a packed lunch with us and finish in a pub or café at the end. We usually start at 10:00 a.m. somewhere within easy driving distance of Corsham. Walkers are often happy to share transport. It is important to have clothing suitable for the weather, including walking boots, and to be able to climb stiles.
Sometimes we put on extra walks, for example on New Years Day or for the churches’ Ride & Stride.
All our walks are led by experienced walk leaders who often design the walks themselves. This means that we can experience a range of local areas. They pre-walk the routes to assess any risks and to make sure the route is viable and safe. To find out more, get in touch.
Although we plan our walks carefully and look after the group, you are responsible for your own safety and wellbeing. By coming on the walk, you are declaring that you are fit enough for the activity. Dogs are not allowed.
Publicity for the next walk is on this site, printed in the weekly church Team News, and there is a mailing list too.
There is no need to tell us whether you are coming. Just turn up ten minutes or so before the start time to give yourself time to put on your boots and listen to any information from the walk leader.
Do get in touch if you have any queries. We look forward to seeing you!
